In this work, the value bases of spiritual maturity of a higher school teacher is considered in the framework of modern education modernization. The provisions on spiritual and moral qualities and worldview attitudes of a person, which constitute the competence of a teacher, are argued. Psychological and pedagogical principles of departmental team work are expounded and their influence on the quality of professional duties fulfillment by the teacher is outlined. Particular attention is paid to the substantive analysis of teacher's professional formation, criteria of pedagogical practice, success, and the importance of creativity in pedagogical activity. Priorities in the teacher's professional training aimed at continuous improvement and general cultural development have been identified. The influence of the axiological component of teacher's culture, combined with supra-personal performance goals, on the students’ social characteristics is substantiated.
