The authors focus on the lexical component of the foreign language acquisition program, on the problem of memorizing new words and word combinations. A brief analysis of the development of the methodology of mnemotechnics in pedagogy was performed. A sociological study was conducted to determine the problems of practical orientation of teaching Moscow schoolchildren a foreign language using mnemotechnics. The application method of mnemotechnics for the advancement of lexical skills in English lessons has been developed.
