The author considers the translation of archaic words in fantasy literature, based on material from the novels by American writer George R. R. Martin. The author provides definitions of obsolete words and describes the features distinguishing them from archaic words. The author also gives translation examples of such words in G. R. R. Martin’s text according to the conventional classification of equivalence types developed by Russian linguist Ya. I. Retsker.
