First-year university students who have moved to other city to study full-time, experience stress caused by a sum of life circumstances and need support. Purpose: to single out the most relevant among practices that are implemented at the National Research University of Electronic Technology for social support of young people, as well as to evaluate their social effectiveness (based on survey methods). Materials and methods: theoretical review of the subject field, classification of social support measures, questionnaire, expert survey. Results: a study of measures and practices of social support for students in difficult life circumstances was carried out, and a conclusion has been made about the effectiveness of the actions taken by support services, about the possibility and necessity of expanding the range of measures. Suggestions were made regarding the introduction of new measures.
