The author analyzes the struggle of E. V. Ilyenkov for the actual logic of the cognitive process. The content of “Epistemological Theses” by Evald Ilyenkov and Valentin Korovikov is examined in detail. Particular attention is paid to the primacy of method in scientific knowledge. A thorough analysis of the subject of philosophy as Ilyenkov saw it is carried out. The development by Ilyenkov of V. I. Lenin’s provisions that destroy positivism has been shown. Hegel’s “Science of Logic” is analyzed as the logic of the real subject-transformative activity of historical person. The article, in form close to an essay, was written to mark the centenary of the birth of E. V. Ilyenkov.
