The article gives the concept of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), considers its increasing importance for the Russian economy. Special attention is paid to the key problems faced by enterprises in this sector of the economy in the process of their functioning and development at the present time. The focus is on the difficulties and prospects of lending and taxation of small businesses. Ways to improve the efficiency of small and medium-sized businesses are proposed.
