<abstract xml:lang="ru">

 <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">

The research relevance is due to the systemic transformation of the translation profession, determined by the trend of reducing business costs and increasing competition. The traditional competence model of a translator as a bilingual communicator demonstrates inadequacy to the needs of low-budget recipients. Delegating the functions of a multitasking process manager to a translator will reduce translation agency costs while maintaining the consumer value of the services. The research scientific novelty lies in the justification of the transition from the linguistic paradigm to the linguistic-managerial paradigm in the training of translators. The research purpose is to solve the problem of meeting the needs of the translation services market low-budget segment under conditions of cost reduction without loss of service quality, to provide a theoretical and practical justification for the translation profession transformation. Materials: empirical data from industry surveys. Methods: D. Gouadec’s professionography, comparative analysis, cost of services decomposition. The research theoretical basis is the functionalist approach (skopos theory); the theoretical provisions on the management of translation projects by H. Risku, K. J. Dunne, E. S. Dunne, the substantiation results of the translator role as a strategist by A. Chesterman and E. Wagner were used. Results: it is revealed that the recipients’ main dissatisfaction of translation agency services is related to management and consulting. It has been proven that the direct economic motivation of the translator to integrate these functions can significantly increase the company’s revenue. The epistemic advantage of the translator’s competence model as a knowledge manager who effectively coordinates the entire process is substantiated. The results confirm the hypothesis: the translation profession transformation into a multitasking process manager makes it possible to offer the market an economically affordable and high-quality service, bypassing expensive surcharges for non-technical, managerial and consulting services. The research perspective is to develop practical business models for the implementation of a concept combining the competencies of a translator and a manager, and to adapt training programs to them.
